You Matter Too: Why Self-Care Isn't Selfish After Having a Baby.

You Matter Too: Why Self-Care Isn't Selfish After Having a Baby.

Becoming a mum is one of life's biggest but best changes. Your focus naturally shifts to caring for your baby, often leaving very little time or energy for yourself. Between sleepless nights, feeding, changing nappies and adjusting to your new routine, it's easy to put your own wellbeing last.

Many mothers feel guilty about taking time for themselves. However, looking after yourself isn't selfish it's an important part of looking after your baby too.

Why self-care matters

Looking after your physical and emotional wellbeing can help you feel more resilient during the challenges of motherhood. Even a few quiet minutes each day can make a difference to how you feel.

Self-care doesn't have to mean expensive spa days or hours away from your family. Sometimes it's simply:

  • Taking five quiet minutes with a cup of tea.
  • Enjoying your skincare routine.
  • Looking after your hair.
  • Going for a short walk.
  • Asking for help when you need it.

Small moments of me time soon add up.

Your body has been through a lot

Pregnancy, birth and the weeks afterwards place huge demands on your body.

Many women notice changes such as:

  • Hair shedding.
  • Dry or sensitive skin.
  • Feeling exhausted.
  • Mood changes.
  • Changes to your body.
  • Reduced confidence.
  • Finding very little time for themselves.

These changes are common, but they can still affect how you feel.

Self-care supports wellbeing

The NHS encourages new parents to prioritise their own health alongside caring for their baby. Rest, good nutrition, gentle movement and accepting support from others all play an important role during the postnatal period.

Remember that caring for yourself helps you continue caring for those you love.

Our philosophy at MumMe London

MumMe London was born from both my personal experience as a mother and my professional experience as a Health Visitor. Throughout my career, I've seen how easily women place everyone else's needs before their own, often forgetting that their own wellbeing matters too.

Pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period can be incredibly rewarding, but they can also be physically and emotionally demanding. It's easy to lose sight of yourself while caring for everyone around you.

That's why we chose the name MumMe London.

It's a gentle reminder that motherhood should never mean losing the person you were before becoming a mum. We believe self-care isn't a luxury, it's an important part of your wellbeing and helps you continue caring for those you love.

At MumMe London, we believe every mum deserves those "Me Moments", small moments of calm, confidence and self-care that help you reconnect with yourself.
